Art Exhibits
Our professionally crafted art exhibits capture the magical flowering of creativity in our workshops, and have been displayed at world-class museums and galleries.
I. TimeSlips Exhibit One (TSI)
Originally created for display in the lobby of the Empire State Building in 2001 (which was then closed after September 11th), this exhibit debuted at the Elsa Mott Ives Gallery in New York City. It will also be on display at the Gaelen Gallery at the Lautenberg Family JCC in Whippany, NJ in September and October of 2002.
This exhibit consists of six-two dimensional sculptures, several reaching up to ten and twelve feet tall. Artist Beth Thielen's sculptures are based on colorful characters from stories created by people with Alzheimer's in TimeSlips workshops. Stories from the actual workshops appear on the figures themselves. Ms. Thilelen's work celebrates the transforming power of imagination and the miraculous creative spirit in people without memory.
Thielen describes the display as a giant "pop-up" book. The freestanding sculptures are composed of industrial foam core with handcrafted wooden bases. The sculptures are constructed in sectioned units that can be easily transported, installed, and assembled in a few hours.
The display can be arranged to fit a small area or deconstructed with solitary figures placed in several different areas. As you can see from the photos, the figures can be placed on stands or hung on walls or from ceilings.
TSI was made possible by the Fan Fox and Leslie Samuels Foundation, the Helen Bader Foundation, Inc., the Isaac H. Tuttle Fund, and the Brookdale Foundation.
The New Jersey exhibit is made possible by the Grotta Foundation.
