Call for Applications for a Community-engaged Composer/Arranger
February 13, 2021
A creative, community-building project is seeking a composer/arranger to create an original composition for the Durham Children’s Choir. Dementia Inclusive Durham (DID) is partnering with TimeSlips to engage and support people with dementia and their families in Durham, NC, with a special focus on those living alone and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The project envisions the creation of a piece that is approximately 10 minutes that engages the audience and models/reflects the process of asking Beautiful Questions into the composition itself. The composer must have knowledge of writing for treble voices and specifically children’s voices. People with dementia who responded to the questions and their families will be invited to attend and participate in the final performance. Audience members should feel an active part of the making of this musical event, rather than passive listeners.
