A Happy Time in the Open Air
“Smiling faces, that’s the main thing,” says Bill. A banjo in the rain!
He’s very clever. He has a guitar and he’s playing a melody. Is that a guitar? “I’m just guitar-ring in the rain,” sings Bill with a smile.
“Oh, come on,” says Tony!
His name is Arthur and he looks quite happy. He’s dancing, too. He’s dancing in the grain!
Arthur is thinking: “I’m free. Mum’s not here. Dad’s not here. Nobody’s here. I can do what I like!”
Arthur’s been sent away out there, so he can make a noise.
Crissie tells us that Arthur’s name in Italian is pronounced “Arturo”. He’s about 18-years-old. Maria thinks he may have drunk some spyro liquor!
He’s having fun though. He’s jumped up out of the grain, with one foot up. He’s having a ball.
Arthur works for his dad on the land. It’s his quiet time for himself, but it’s not quiet! He’s a guitarist. He’s playing something his parents don’t want to listen to. Plunka, plunka, plunka. He’s singing country music.
He looks like he’s happy to sing. He has a clear sky and he is happy. He just plays for himself. At the same time as he is playing, he’s thinking “what a wonderful world this is”. He’s enjoying himself.
After he’s finished, he’ll go back to what he was doing before. Afterwards, he’s going to look for his girlfriend. We don’t know if she likes the music that he plays. The family might have taught him to play. Music might run in the family. The sky is clear, so he won’t be singing in the rain!
Arthur’s girlfriend is called Richie. When he meets her, he will take her by the arm and he’ll buy her a drink. They’ll walk along and talk and maybe find a coffee shop. Crissie hopes no-one will put will put salt in their tea instead of sugar, as a joke.
Bill sings: “Singing in the rain, just singing in the rain!”
