An ocean. About October, November. The man has a jacket. It's cold.
There's something out on the boat. He wishes the boat would come close so he could get on. He sits there watching to see if the boat will pick him up.
Sounds of water...whoosh, whoosh.
John is his name. Sitting. Watching to see if it will pick him up. Sitting there thinking if the boat will take him to a ship, with his big coat, to San Francisco. He's ready to go somewhere.
Smell of sea water, dead fish, seagulls. Their sound was a cracking.
Thinking and deciding whether He will get on or not.
He just left his sweetheart. He didn't know whether to leave or go back to her. She lives in San Francisco.
(sings) "I left my heart in San Francisco."
He thinks he needs to go back to her. So he decides to get on the boat and go to San Francisco. Gloria is her name.
He knows the captain. It's his father and they are good friends. His father will have a talk with him. He'll ask "Where do you think you want to go? Tell me and I'll take you there."
"I want to go see Gloria."
John's son stands behind him and takes the picture. His family is on shore having a picnic. He's thinking, "Should I go with them or should I get on that boat?" He says to his father, "Where do you want to go?"
"I want to go someplace else. I want to see Gloria. She makes my heart feel fonder. So I will go find her! And we'll talk and get married. She's the one I want."
He steps on the boat. John's dad says, "Son, if that's where you want to go, I'll take you there."
