This picture is taken in Germany. It’s winter. There is powdery snow on the ground. They are looking through the shop window. She wants it. It’s what she wants for Christmas. She doesn’t even have to ask. They have been together for a long time. He knows she wants what they are seeing.
It’s night time. It’s dark outside and there are lights on in the window. They are window shopping.
They are all dressed up. They are coming from a concert. Somewhere where they’ve been noticed. They are important people. You can tell by the way they hold themselves.
They are holding hands. He has a cane. It looks very quiet.
This is a very fancy shop - one that one should window shop. The clothes in the window look a if they are for young people. The models have on fancy hats.
They are on their way to dinner after the concert. They are window shopping along the way.
They will have steak and baked potato and salad. Afterwards they may have ice cream, or maybe pie…. or may something fancy like a meringue.
They will have vanilla ice cream with nuts and caramel, chocolate and whipped cream. It’s turned into tower!
They will have wine to drink. Only a glass, but it will be a vintage wine.
It will be a fancy dinner. They will end up with cheese and fruit: cantaloupe and grapes. It will be a fruit tray and you pick what you want.
Tonia would pick red raspberries with cream on top.
Honey likes raspberries and strawberries.
They are going to a concert and a fancy dinner. They are well off. They are very dressed up.
If Evelyn was going to a fancy restaurant, she would choose steak.
Honey would like to choose something special on the menu. Something unusual. She’d not have the potato and have vegetables.
Polly would choose banana pudding for dessert. She’d have whipped cream on the top. This is a dessert that Polly made at home.
Jan likes cookies. She would choose cookies. They are not good for you but Jan would choose the cookies.
What kind of concert did they attend? Not a rock concert. It was an orchestra performance. Dance music. Perhaps the restaurant will have dance music and they can dance.
Jan likes the idea of going shopping with the family. It’s not something she’s done often.
In Chicago they have The Magnificent Mile. It is all very fancy. You just walk down the street and look in the windows.
Fran used to love to go window shopping. She lived in Illinois. She would go downtown and go window shopping. She didn’t have a favorite store. She liked the clothes stores.
Honey thinks the clothing stores are usually the best. There are so many things. And the accessories are in the same place. In the fancy places a sales person helps you. If you choose some clothes in the dressing room, the sales person would take the clothes to the front counter for you.
Jan says it was so different then. The whole family went shopping together. They had fun. It’s interesting how times have changed.
There used to be separate shops: clothing shops…..shoe shops….bread shops…..pastry shops. Now the stores have everything in one place.
Mary Lou would always go to dinner and have steak. Mary Lou would order medium rare. Evelyn wants her steak medium well done.
Dwight just wants food when he goes out to eat. Australia has good food. He spent about a month in Australia. It was the kick of his life. (Evelyn says, “Who was she?” Dwight says she ran a store, but wasn’t allowed to go out with him.) In Australia they eat about the same things we do. The people are friendly. When you make a friend with an Aussie, you have a friend for life.
Their language is different. They speak English but it’s a different English and you must learn that different English to talk with them.
