The camera slowly opens on two ladies. One is sophisticated and the other just young! Both are enjoying the warmth of the sun on their fashionable hats and the cool sand under their modest high top shoes.
The brightly striped lounge chairs and large umbrella looks like Hollywood on the beach and the girls look like actresses.
It's cold there, like early spring, and the girls are glad to have on all the material of the costumes or is it really early 1900s? Either way, they're enjoying such a pleasant day apparent by their big smiles, waiting to go back on set to shoot the next scene, as the gentle breeze ruffles their skirts.
Mary, who's sitting on the right side, tells her young friend, Elizabeth, how excited she is to finally work in a Sherlock Holmes story, landing the landlady, a plum role.
We can just barely hear them speaking over the roar of ocean. They sound sophisticated like they have marbles in their mouths. Why, they probably hold their pinkies out when they drink tea.
They look back at the big back of the studio to see if they're are ready for them, then they settle down to talk about their favorite subject: the young one's boyfriend who is also an actor, Billy Bob!
Mary looks sneaky to us, trying to get into to something
She seems about mid 30s and Elizabeth looks around 16.
We just love these costumes. Elizabeth appears to be wearing a real fancy under skirt or slip.We want to call to them and ask them to show us the back of the outfit. It probably has a bustle. They also have crinolines underneath that make the sound of cymbals rubbing together when the women walk. And, of course, they have the button up shoes with thick leggings that they can't wait to peel off and then put on their bed clothes!
We like Elizabeth's hat the best. It has the bow so sweetly perched on her head. Mary's hat, however looks like Mama put it in a closet and it got squashed.
As they start thinking about seeing their boy friends (Mary has an eye for the director)their cheeks become flushed and red as a peach.
And here comes the stage manager. Back to work they go,giddy as school girls.
We watch the last flounce of their petticoats and wish we could join them.
