Penny and Petra Penguin are sister's - and they are leaving the Coney Island Aquarium - despite the fact that the conditions there are tolerable, they want to be free and have an idea. They are going to stowaway on a ship that will be heading to Nova Scotia. They overheard some tourists discussing getting back to the boat to embark on the final leg of their journey. It is questionable if Penny and Petra will get there - but they miss be free and are willing to take a chance.
To each other they sound normal - chattering about their new adventure and what it will mean, but to others they just sound as if they're squawking.
The other sounds are of traffic and city life - they have to cross a very busy boardwalk to get over to the ocean that will lead them to the ship docked at the pier in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
It smells much better outside then it did in the aquarium - where the stench of penguin poop and dead fish for dinner permeates the air. To a person like me, it is very unpleasant, but to Penny and Petra, it is a pleasant smell. Each to his own.
They know each other better then anyone else, they are sisters - twins in fact who have never been separated and don't intend to be separated now. They love each other dearly.
Their relationship is lovely - they share everything and make each other laugh. They were separated from the rest of their family and are fearful of losing each other.
They are alone becuase they've decided to make a run for it - and have gotten past all the security - it is odd that no one has tried to capture them. Maybe, they'll be lucky.
They made it to the boardwalk and were sniffed by vagrant dogs - and people who saw them thought they were part of a troupe which was close by. They evaded capture. Whoo hoo.
