This is Stella and Helen. They are best friends. They went to school together in the coldest part of New Brunswick, Canada. That's why they are dressed in warm furry coats with warm furry collars. It is 1912 and they are posing for their first real photograph together. Even though they are excited to have their picture taken, they are both getting restless because the photographer is taking a long time setting up his equipment. The room they are in is hot and stuffy. The smell of cigar smoke fills the air. The man with the cameral keeps telling them to "smile." They are getting tired and really don't feel like smiling anymore. Stella wants to take off her hat because she keeps hitting the ceiling. Helen says they must keep them on because that is what ladies of the day do. Stella doesn't care because she is hot. She says to Helen..."well, if we stand here much longer, a bird will surely nest in your hat." Helen tries to stay serious for the photo, but just before the flash of the camera, she starts to grin. "Come on she says....let's get out of these horrible outfits and go to the saloon.
