The community centre was packed. It was always a good turn out for the annual cultural festival. Mavis always made sure that she had a good time. Dancing was her passion. It made her smile, laugh and light up. She felt great when she was moving to a rhythm, a sound, a beat, a sound, a beat a rhythm.
Mavis works part-time as a cashier at the local patisserie. Her neighbours are friendly, but they don't spend much time together so she spends time alone too often. Today is different. Today, and once a year there, here is the community lifted on brass celebratory notes drifting through the warm summer air.
Here, today, Mavis is not alone and she needs no partner to dance, dance, dance and celebrate community at the cultural centre.
