A business man stopped by and has a meeting coming up. He decided on getting his shoes shined by a guy who has a shop set up to shine shoes. The location is an outdoor mall in Italy, and the time period is the 1960s which can be seen by the casual coat of the business man. The mosaic tile of the street also tells us this. The man shining the shoes is Italian, and the guy getting his shoes shined is a banker. The banker has to go to a luncheon meeting where he has to impress people and could care less about the guy shining his shoes. This takes place later in the morning, around 12:15 before they eat lunch. The Italian is looking up to ask the man a question, but has not caught the banker's attention. The Italian shoe shiner is named Enrico, and the banker is named Mr. Borgini, who is also Italian. Enrico was on the street with his shoe shining business where Mr. Borgini works close by and decided to get his shoes shined. He is ignoring Enrico and only wants him for utilitarian purposes. Mr. Borgini does not want to be associated with Enrico outside of the business role because Mr. Borgini is of a higher social class than Enrico, or at least feels like he is. His arms crossed which tells us he wants nothing to do with him. Appearance is part of Mr. Borgini's status, whereas Enrico has a poorer looking appearance. Enrico is so used to being inferior on the social class that it doesn't bother him anymore, he's used to being treated this way. We don't know what the trash bags are for, but it may be from the business owner. It can also be another indication that Enrico is from a lower social class linking him equal to trash. Mr. Borgini is thinking "hurry up get this done, I want to get out of here" he either has to get back to work or he has a lunch date. The pipe that Mr. Borgini has is another indicator of his high social class, also his hair is combed back and shaved clean. Enrico is thinking he wants the business to keep up, so he is working hard to get good tips and retain the business. Enrico thanks Mr. Borgini even though he should be the one thanking him. Mr. Borgini gives him a tip that is average. In the end, Enrico will try and get people's attention that walk by.
