That man is Jose. Bob. His name is Jose Bob. The chickens are his pets, they follow him everywhere. They are very noisy, cackling all the time. "Chickens don't make good housepets," says Dean. Jose Bob is like the chicken whisperer. He has loved chickens since he was a little boy. He is taking the chickens away from the house so his mom won't cook them in her pot, Peggy thinks. He calls the chickens different names, but sometimes he gets them confused. They live in Texas. It's Jose Bob, his mom, Maria and his grandmother. Her name is Mary. The father died in the war, one of the World Wars. They are nice people, but poor. They are mad at Jose sometimes for taking the chickens away because they can't eat them, but he's a good boy and they love him.
