Chicks and chickens are getting ready for food. They see the farmer. A she or a he. They gather around him part of the day for feed time.
Can’t see what he’s carrying. He’s carrying feed. He’s dressed like summer time. A hat to keep the sun off of him. What he’s carrying is not big enough for water.
The chickens are well protected. The little ones are lined up. The first month you keep them in your kitchen. The older ones get to the back. Like dogs do. Little dogs line up. The farmer’s fat, not unusual. A lot of good chicken meat in there.
He’s hearing quack quack. Different noises. Chickens are different from ducks. He’s getting right in between the water hydrant. They dug it for water supply for animals. It’s a nice house there. Must be a door there. A lady is there sitting on the porch watching him feeding the chickens. It looks like a woman in heavy skirting.
They’re going to supper. Even the big ones are there for their cut. Normally a farmer’s not wearing shorts. His shoes are untied. He just jumped in them in a hurry. I don’t see any other chickens or guinea hens coming out of the tree.
He’s a heavy set man. Works outside. Happy. Fat, he likes to eat. One shoe is not tied. A normal farmer. Has a hat to keep the sun off. Doesn’t have long shirt sleeves. May be a small river, all those blocks are holding something back.
He’s probably a farmer. Sheep, some have pigs. Pretty easy. Chicken, turkey, ducks. Filter in, don’t regulate much food. Pigs, he feeds them well. Out for his walk. Feeds the chickens at five o'clock.
What will happen next? Get finished with feeding chickens. Go back to lie down and sleep. One of the chickens will make a nice dinner. It’s his time of day to feed the chicks.
Does he have family? I would say so. Most of them did. Those young people worked. Those young men were like that. They wanted. Girls, too. Helped plow, pull weeds. That’s what you do on a farm. He has a wife. She stays in the house. Bakes cookies, pies. In the fall, she does canning to put in the basement. So he’s the father.
There’s something green around his neck – for sweat. He’s carrying something on his back.
Do the chickens have names? Maybe had a chick that was left out of something. Just “chicken” or “turkey” or something like that. Little chicks cuddle. Children gave a name to one of them. We played with them. Parents decided that they didn’t want sheep or pigs.
What are chickens like? There are so many different kinds. Rooster with the red comb. I don’t know anything else about chickens.
