The resident I met with said it was her job to get glass milk bottles every morning when she was a child. She had 11 siblings so they went through 4 bottles of milk a day. Her mother also made powdered milk which she didn't like because there were bubbles in it that were hard to get out. Another item was lard, which she said makes a very good pie crust. Pork and beans were a popular meal as well, but it was very fatty so it wasn't very good. Her parents made chili that had a lot of noodles and beans in it to fill it up because they had a big family to feed.
