Comfort and Smells
April 12, 2019
Bea closes her eyes and after several seconds says, "The smells. Home just smells like home. . . Especially when I was a child and my mother was baking."
-That's so true! I remember smells of my grandparents houses in Alabama. There was always a distinctive smell and I later realized it's a comforting musty-earth smell that triggers those memories because of the family farm house that's been in our family since it was built back in the 1800's. The storage cellar was a dirt floor.
"Being there," Barbara laughed as she responded. "Ya know, when you're home your home. . . right?" Others laughed.
-Barbara's got jokes today! "Always!"
Eileen's response, "I love my home. . . You know it's just down here (points down the hallway). My sister brought me the most beautiful bed and I just adore it!"
-So you like lounging in your bed and relaxing?
"Oh yes. It's just so comforting and I love the beautiful covers."
Colonel Bob takes his time and thinks looking straight ahead, "Reading a good book. When I have the time, I really like reading a good book."
-What makes a book good? "I like it," he laughed and grinned.
-What types of book do you like? Grinning before he responded, "The good ones." (This got a laugh as well.)
Staff also chimed in with their responses. Nicole responded, "Seeing family whether it's my mom here or all of my family in Peru. I love being around all of my family and I miss them."
Lindsay's quick response was, "Putting on my PJ's! I like lounging and relaxing. I'm ready to relax when I put on my pajamas."
"I get to do whatever I want. If I don't feel like wearing clothes, I don't have to! Noone is there to tell me what to do or when I need to do something." Kamlesh got a good chuckle and some nods of affirmation from the rest of the group.
My response, "When I'm able to practice all of my musical instruments. I'm not as proficient at all of them so I like to practice when my husband isn't home until my dog starts trying to sing along and gets frustrated with some of them."
Great discussion!
