Look at me: I'm appropriately dressed and ready to swim. Her arms feel a little chilly. She is showing off her new swimming costume... But to whom?
She is having a great time showing off in a lady like manner (whatever that means) saying "there, how do you like my new outfit?"
She is two or three above where she lives. She's in Coney Island or maybe Toronto... Two or three above Toronto, maybe in one of those lakes. It's a cold day. It can't be very warm.
She might go swimming inside the building or nearby. She's standing in sand at the lip of the lake. Her name is Mary and she's showing off to her friends or maybe a Bo. She's 17 or 18. She comes from a small town south of Winnipeg. She's come to the beach to get away from her family or to meet her friends. Her parents know where she is. She took the train, Am-track. She's staying with her Aunty. The mother would make sure there was a family member watching after her (a chaperone).
One of the boys has a camera. He's a school chum. She's posing as much as she can; she's not an experienced woman, but she is experiencing freedom away from the family. She's posing for the photo. Because that's what happens when you're 17. She looks happy.
There is a guy behind, or a girl. Could is be her cousin?
The year is 1915. That was last year.
