Dancing Legs
They’re dancing and they’re going to do a show, and the curtain wants to go up. The curtain didn’t go up yet It’s in the middle of going up. It stopped. When the curtain goes up, it’s the Follies! The girls from the Follies are behind the curtain. And there’s music downstairs, and this is the orchestra. It sure looks like a theatre. They have very nice shoes and legs for dancing. Yes, nice shoes. Looks like this is a pair of legs. It’s a group of dancers who are doing an unusual dance from behind the curtain. They’re on stage, and they’re going to do a dance, like a high-kick dance. C’mon, fellas, start the music! We’re tired of doing nothing! We see only one leg, and every leg has a special shoe. Perhaps they want to show a pair, but there’s only one. It’s a shoe show, a show where people show shoes for sale. Where’s the other shoe? They’re advertising shoes for sale. But it’s kind of strange not to see the other half of the person. I like very much the shoes. I’d buy a pair! They’re very nice shoes, and I want the orange one. But there’s an orchestra. What’s the orchestra for? The music is here to show the shoes. It’s dance music, it must be dance music. It’s tap dance music. It’s some kind of marching music for walking down and showing the shoes. The orchestra looks very happy. They’re playing a happy song for dancing. Dancing with friends to find happy things. They’re standing on one leg, their muscles should be tightened, but they’re not. Behind this foot is the other leg. It’s got to be there, honey, or they’d fall on the floor. The first two feet look like one person. Maybe they’re fake legs they put the shoes on, because you can’t see behind it. Maybe this is a dance where one foot goes up, like a swan. Special people came to see the show of the shoes: young people, old people like us, all kinds of people! The people who are hopping on the other foot! The manufacturer who brought his shoes to the show, that’s who’s in the audience. They’re getting ready for new times, with dancing and singing. The audience is amazed at the beauty of the women dancing. I’m practical—the buyer who came to see the shoes liked several and put in an order. And when they finished, everyone showed their faces. The show ends on their feet—with dancing! Let’s all go and see this in person! Created at the Freda Mohr Sr. Center Jewish Family Service, Los Angeles 9-12-14
