Ava stands outside the door of the barn on her family farm. She is holding the keys to the feed bin in her pinafore. Ava is nine and it is her job to feed the farm animals. In the barn there are chickens, ducks a cow, dogs a pig a rooster and a horse. Ava hears the cow mooing and the clucking of the hungry chickens. Today Ava also finds a new animal-someone left the other door, the big door open and a moose wandered in. Probably following his nose and the scents of feed, hay, barley and oats. Ava loves animals, she gently and carefully offers the huge moose different treats, she is not certain just what a moose would want to eat.
After the animals are fed Ava sets out to the vegetable fields, followed by her new friend, the moose. The farmers that work the fields are of German heritage. Ava helps pick corn, carrots, celery and tomatoes. Ava will help make a delicious salad and bake loaves of fresh bread for a harvest festival on the farm. Ava loves the fresh corn on the cob.
There will be dancing to guitar, violins, washboards playing in the Jug Band. Ava gets to blow on the empty jug in the band when they play the song TUTKEY IN THE STRAW. The leader of the Jug Band always ends a performance by simply saying, "Das Es Good" which means this is good. Ava agrees.
