This is quite good. There’s a kid in it. He has a smile on his face! There’s a garden ornament there and the boy is hugging it. It’s a gnome!
The boy is smiling because the gnome is tickling him! The boy is five years old and his name is Robert. He is sometimes called “Bobby”. It looks like he is standing up on a stone in the garden.
Henry says it’s not a public garden because a gnome like that would be smashed, so we think it’s in a backyard.
The gnome’s hat is like an ice cream cone. He put it upside down on his head to cool himself down! It is summertime because the weather is hot.
Robert’s parents must be close by. It’s taking place in the family home. Robert went outside to play and the parents are inside the house.
Bill looks at the photo and wonders when it was taken. He says: “wouldn’t it be lovely, if it’s 20 years later, to look back at this wonderful photo”.
Vittoria tells us that the mother probably took this photo, so that when the boy grows up they can show the photo to him and say “do you remember this?”. They forget, and we forget, so the photo helps us to remember happy times.
Over a period of time, Robert would change and want different things, especially satisfaction. That’s the most important thing for people—even if they don’t know it!
