( Sorry, not completely clear on the concept, but I didn't use one of the TimeSlips images with my first group. I used a picture on the front of an old "Reminisce" magazine. [I've written for permission] It's a picture of a young boy washing his wagon and an older gent washing a vintage car. Here's the story my group told.)
Q. What do you think is happening in this picture?
These guys are washing a car. It's a grandfather and his grandson. Grandfather's name is Shorty, and his grandson is Jack Robby - sometimes called "J.R.".
Grandpa Shorty is washing his 1929 Ford Model "A". It's an overcast day
Q.Why is he washing it today?
Because the water is available and so the car won't get waterspotted.
Q. Why do you think Grandson Jack Robby is washing his wagon? So he doesn't touch Grandpa's car! And because Grandpa is washing the car and Grandpa has taught him to take care of his things. Jack Robby is spending the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. They may take Grandma out for a drive later. They'll go see the fall leave
Q. Where's Grandma?
In the kitchen baking chocolate chip cookies. Toll House chocolate chip cookies. But she can't bake Nutter Butter's - they'll have to go buy those.
It's a beautiful car. Grandpa Shorty inherited it. He doesn't drive it very often so it stays clean.
Q. What do you think they'll do when they're done washing the car and wagon?
They won't clean the garage! Shorty has a little feather in his hat. Maybe he's a fisherman. So maybe Grandpa Shorty and J.R. will go fishing. Grandpa know lots of fishing holes.
but J.R. gets bored, and goes wading in the water and scares the fish.
They go home to eat cookies and take Grandma for a drive to see the fall leaves.
