It’s a family reunion, obviously. People have come from all over to rural New York. It is fall. As you can see everyone has a coat on and the men all have hats. The men are discussing business and crops and there is a girl named Elsie blowing up a yellow balloon; she’s making a monkey.
They’ve eaten their meal but there is a crowd ready to be served dessert. One little girl, Irene, already has her dessert; she’s eating an ice cream cone.
The two women serving, sisters Mary and Jane, are getting ready to ring the dinner bell. “I like those names,” says Doris. The cakes are homemade and they have traveled a long way.
