FAMOUS CHICKEN FARM
This reminds Bernice of her family farm where she grew up.
Her Dad bought 200 baby chickens at a time. We had 13 children, so we had to
buy a lot. We ate all the chickens, and when we got low, they would buy more.
We had a lot of fun.
Marianne thinks that it is really great that its hatched
out. People know how to handle it.
This farm is some place, with arid landscape, maybe Kentucky
or Michigan. The ground is worn out from the chickens. Uncle Clyde is the man
in the picture. Why not? He’s looking after the chickens on the farm. He’s
carrying chicken feed in his left hand and on his back.
On the porch, there is a leather, portable covered stool,
and a porch glider, there for the farmworkers who are working hard and want to
take a break. The glider is ages old, next to the flexible chair, which they
could take with them after a hard day’s work. They sit on the glider and chair,
relax, drink some cider and discuss the activities of the day.
Standing in front of the porch, Uncle Clyde, who is no
relation, dreams of the beach in Barbados, anywhere but on the farm. He feels
right at home with the chickens.
Uncle Clyde is trying to keep the chickens together. There
are a little ones there. Is that another chicken behind him or a 4-legged creature?
Uncle Clyde likes taking care of the chickens, roosters, duck, and they have
some pigs on the farm as well. He likes something to eat.
He has a family, a wife Mildred. She’s cooking grits for
dinner. The chickens are crowing and clucking. The like to be fed, like having
it spread out. Uncle Clyde is wearing an unusual hat, one that he stole from
Shelley. His hands are in a fist. He’s going to take care of something. He has
his sunglasses on his shoulder, equipped to go out and see what they are doing.
There are 2 roosters we can see and one is named Foghorn
Leghorn. A lot of the little one’s are running around.
