It’s summer, we’re having a picnic.
It’s a big thing,
A reunion of folks from schools and churches.
Each family is bringing whatever they want.
It’s a picnic for people who like to eat all day.
We have babies all the way up to grown-ups,
We are feeding them all.
So start early and stay late.
What would you like to eat?
Beans in a pot, cakes and pies.
Ice cream, ribs, chocolate candy
I can spell it: A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G
Whatever you brought, you didn’t bring enough.
One guy who was tickled to be invited
Brought ten times as much as everyone else.
We are at a state park in Copley where every person can be comfortable.
It’s out in the open, but it might rain.
After we eat, we’ll have music and dancing
A hoe-down with the boys who’ve had fiddling lessons.
The girls will start the dancing.
We’ll all look like clowns.
We’ll have all kinds of things to do.
Ring Around the Rosie
Football and basketball
Swimming for the older children.
Everybody takes home different things than what they brought.
They will get-up early the next morning and eat more.
