Tuesday December 6th was a great day because it was Johnny's 8th birthday! One of his birthday gifts was a stuffed frog. Jon decided to name him Ribbitt. The second present he received was a pet turtle named George. Jon took George out of it's terrarium and introduced him to Ribbitt.
Before Jon could react, George and Ribbitt had begun to fight over a worm. George and Ribbitt went at it for hours and hours until they got tired. Once they got to tired to finish the brawl, they both collapsed out of breath. But still, bad news for the worm they had fought over. George and Ribbitt had ripped it in half. They each ate their own piece of worm and decided that they were too hungry to fight. This resulted in a sense of mutual respect that filled the air.
Out of mutual respect, George and Ribbitt had become good friends. But of course, they were still hungry. So the duo decided that they are going to search for some fish and snail to eat. George led Ribbitt outside and they went on the prowl for some snacks. They headed towards the sea and found themselves on the Louisiana Bayou.
Ribbitt saw a fish swimming next to the shore, and jumped into the water after it. Ribbitt began to munch on the fish and ate everything down to the bone. At about the same time that he took his last bite, George came into view.
"Why didn't you save some for me?" George yelled.
Ribbitt hesitated and answered, "There wasn't enough fish." He shrugged his shoulders and hopped away. George avoided an argument and stormed off, at the fastest pace that an angry turtle could. George figured he would leave and find his own food. The friends parted ways.
Ribbitt went further into the Bayou and found some yummy insects to scarf down. Poor Ribbitt didn't pay attention when he was thirsty though. Ribbitt drank some poisoned water and dropped dead in the middle of a puddle. Once word of the death got back to George, he retreated his head back into his shell in mourning.
"This is no way to end a friendship silly Ribbitt", George quietly spoke to himself. George never made friends with a frog for the rest of his life.
