Getting Nowhere with a Happy Ending
Up against the wall, in the middle of the day, with squawking sea birds flying over head, a salty smell and the noise of waves, they’re trying to beat one another to get to the top first because they’re slow moving things.
What’s worrying me is when they get to the top they can’t get over the bars. They are a bit big to get through. They couldn’t get over those bars.
They’re stupid being up there anyway!
They turn back and they don’t fall off because they are clinging to the bar.
Black on red looks nice.
There are more. The others are hiding. They are a family but they are silly going up there. It’s a silly place for them to be.
Do you know what’s going to happen? The birds are going to eat them.
Nah, don’t like that ending. They will just have to sit quietly by themselves and wait for someone to come.
Here’s a happy ending: A child finds them, puts them in her little bucket and takes them home.
Shirley and Joan.
