It takes place in New Jersey. This girl emigrated from Greece. It looks like a costume you would wear in Greece. Her hair is dark. New Jersey had a settlement from there. Her dress is long. It must be the late 1800’s. Coney Island, the boardwalk, seaside was so popular and free to the people.
Are the houses on stilts? The tide comes in on the boardwalk. That’s the way it is. The sunshine feels so nice. Not sure if she has shoes on. I can’t tell because her feet are in the sand. There’s a gentleman in the back that has a top hat on. She must have come from Greece or Syria because of her costume. It’s not a swimsuit because she wouldn’t have long socks on. Does she have any family? Probably a little brother behind her picking on her!
They hear sounds of chatter along with seagulls and the sea coming in. The sunshine is so nice. There’s a shadow being cast. It makes it seem like mid-day.
The smells are not pleasant. It just depends on what is on the shore. The salty air has a different smell. The women want to get a tan, get in the water and get wet but can’t in that outfit! It would weigh them down. I had on a jersey knit with a sash and got caught in the rain. That dress stretched on me almost to the ground. Your body forms to the wet dress. It was embarrassing! The dress just stretched and stretched. I also had black socks on...uuggh! How hot!
The only recreation they had was to go to the seashore. Is she Italian? Greek? She had to move to come to the seashore. It looks like Coney Island to me. She’s going to go home and come back tomorrow. It kind of looks like electrical wires in the background. Maybe we should rename this to “A Day at the Seashore”.
