It’s a free family fair that happens once a year in Wauwatosa. They have anything you plant with a seed. It’s during lent so they don’t eat much meat but they have fresh fruit that’s good for you physically. They have baked bread. I could bake bread but it would take me all day and I don’t get anything done. There is lemon pie, rhubarb pie, doughnuts, cake and hot cakes with butter – short and tall stacks. Flour and sugar and good things like that like they ration during the war. Jane and Pearl are cutting pies for others to make more money. $1.50 a piece. There is a baby back there sitting on the table. You don’t put kids on the table. One kid is entertaining the other, that is what festivals are for, get them out of the house and have fun. It’s the 1920’s or 1930’s. There are women with children and they look like they’ve had it! Children are having a good time. There is music, a lot of people and yelling. They will be there for an hour to two hours – it depends on how long they want to be there. The speech area and anything they want to talk about, answer questions, anyone can give a speech. The trees are tall but they aren’t palm trees. The smaller trees would not make the best timber. They remind me of Johnny Appleseed.
