Megan has been concerned since her first day workingat the Library. She knows deep in her heart that every morning roosters are supposed to usher in a new day with a greeting to the sun. She has been perplexed that the sun was rising all on it's own without the morning call of Samuel the Rooster. Each day the sun came up, and each morning Samuel was quiet as a church mouse. Where did that phrase come from anyway? Are church mice any quieter than normal mice? Who knows. Anyway, every morning when Megan opened the Library at sunrise, she would try something new to get Samuel to sound off the sunrise. Last week she brought a foghorn and blared it at the rooster, but still nothing. Her concern lessened, after all the sun was still coming and going every day regardless of the roosters lack of noise. This morning it struck Megan, maybe the rooster is in fact greeting the sun daily, and she just cannot hear it. At this Megan grabbed a glass ear horn off the shelf of an exhibit for the hearing impaired. Megan was astonished, upon holding the contraption up to her ear she heard the rooster calling to the sun. The rooster shouted, "good morning sun, this is Samuel and this is your wake-up call". Megan was relieved to know that Samuel was in fact doing his job every morning, it was just that Megan could not hear it because Samuel spoke in a way only the sun could hear with ease. So every morning Megan now thinks of Samuel, and smiles a grin of gratitude for the rooster.
