Home with the Measles
This little boy's name is Danny. How old do you think he is?
Danny lives with his Mom and Dad and his two older sisters. Danny's family lives on a farm near a town named Pontypool. They have a big farm with dairy cows and a few chickens. Danny loves to help with the jobs in the barn.
Last Saturday, Danny woke up early and he had a sore throat and spots all over his tummy. Then he looked in the mirror and he noticed spots on his face and his neck. Then he looked again and he saw red spots on his arms and his legs. He was spotted all over! He ran downstairs to tell his Mom. His Mommy looked at his red spots and put her hand on his forehead. "You have a fever, poor thing," his Mom said. She made Danny some scrambled eggs and toast. Then she asked Danny to crawl back into bed and rest. "You have the measles, Danny. But don't worry. They'll go away after a few days."
So now Danny has to stay in bed for a few days. He won't be able to help milk the cows. He likes to help his Mom and Dad with the chores. More than anything, he loves to gather the eggs from the chickens but his sisters will help to do that until he is feeling better.
He was feeling pretty lonely, but his Mom brought him vanilla icecream for a special treat. "We missed you out at the barn, but I'm glad you're resting, Danny. You'll feel better soon." Danny thanked his Mom for taking care of him and went to sleep. In a few days, the spots were all gone and he was feeling as good as new!
