We are in the South, Florida, Alabama, Arizona, or Louisville maybe. It looks like a store (Marg), but it could also be the VFW (Chuck). They're dancing and sitting around the table having a good time (Deanna). It's a grandma and her grandson (Jerry) that are dancing. Their names are Mabel and Fred and they are throwing a party! Fred just came home from one of the wars (Al).
It's the middle of the afternoon because the little boys are still up. Their names are Pea and Pod (Chuck). The 2 boys are waiting for Mabel to get done dancing so they can eat. The 4 guys in the back are going to hold a card game and Fred is going to be their 5th player (Jerry). It's a friendly game. Is there going to be dinner? I hope so! (Gene) Southern Fried Chicken (Carl) and Mabel's the cook. There's a ukulele player and it sounds like he's playing "Good Night Ladies," or he's playing "Should Auld Acquaintances Be Forgot" (Roger).
A lot of cheating happens at the after dark poker game, but they let Fred win. He's glad to be home for the chicken. "Call my mother! I'm okay!" he says (Carl). He's going to get a job, (Gene) but a girlfriend first; someone's gotta support him! He wants to be an auto-mechanic (Jerry) or work at a bank so he can see all the money he can't have. He becomes an auto-mechanic. He likes it and has a girlfriend named Matilda, Sweet Adelaide, or Shaniqua.
Fred and the girl of many names are making plans for a family vacation. They get married and have a son named Jack. Jack grows up to become a Milwaukee Brewer so Fred can quit his job (Gene). Are you sure Jack didn't go up the bean stalk? (Roger) It'd be a happier ending if he joined the Yankees!
