My name is Hope and I am 11 years old. I'm riding my new bike to the store to get some candy with the $1.00 my mother gave me for my birthday.
On the way to the store I saw a pile of snow and decided to try to see if I could ride my bike through the deepest part without getting stuck. But I did get stuck. I had to get off my bike and free my bike from the thick, wet, heavy snow. I got lots of snow in my boots - it was very cold!
Luckily I was almost to the store so rode a short way and, when I got to the store....before I went in, I emptied my boots of the melting snow. I didn't like the feeling of wet, cold socks in my boots but I really, really wanted candy!
I live in Maine now but I grew up in a small country in Africa where it never snows. This is my first winter and I think it is magical as long as I am warm in my clothes! The year is 2007 and I have only been in Maine for about 7 months. Before that we lived in Texas. It doesn't snow there either. I came to America because of a war that made us have to leave. I miss my home but I feel safe here.
