It's finally that time of the year to put on Christmas music and put up Christmas decorations with your family! It's December of 2009 and Louise, the owner of the cat Layla and the dog Steve, couldn't be happier, as this is her favorite time of year. She lives in California and doesn't get any snow, so she loves to decorate her house as much as possible to show her Christmas spirit. Louise woke up early in the morning, fed Layla and Steve, and dragged the Christmas tree in from her garage. Unfortunatley though, she had moved into her first apartment several months earlier and had forgotten to bring any ornaments or lights from her parents' house! She sets up the tree and decides to meet up with a friend to go shopping for Christmas decorations, leaving Layla and Steve alone. Steve is unfazed by the tree and goes in the living room to take a nap on the couch while Layla investigates. After sniffing around and thinking that it would make a good scratching post, Layla gets up on the tree and begins scratching her claws. Shortly after, she climbs a bit too high and the whole tree tips over! Steve is startled by the crash and runs to the kitchen to see the mess she has made by her scratching. Louise lives alone with the animals and since she's gone, there's no one there to notice the mess. That is until the pets hear the keys in the door as Louise enters. She gasps at the sight of the tree next to her two pets, and the two can do nothing but stare at her, feeling a little guilty. Louise is not one to get mad over these sorts of things, so she just laughs it off and shoos them away so she can pull out the vaccuum and start cleaning up the needles. She found plenty of pretty glass ornaments at the store and is still excited to place them on the tree. She puts on some Christmas music and gets to work.
