TimeSlips Session #7
Cornell Hall Rehabilitation Center, Union NJ TimeSlips Session Facilitated and Recorded by Lillian Ribeiro
Story by Seniors on Stage
They are fighting having fun together. Fisty cuffs. Somebody has an umbrella. They look like the little rascals or Tom and Jerry. They could be little boys fighting. They’ve seen boxers in the ring and they are trying to be like them. After they hit each other they will stop fighting. The smile on the boys face says they are having fun. Mom is there now standing up in the driveway. Mom doesn’t want them to hurt each other. This is in South Beach, Staten Island, or Jones Beach or Ocean Grove, Atlantic City or Point Pleasant. It’s a sun shinny day. There is sand. Smells fishy, like the ocean, dead fish, hamburgers, hot dogs, and potato something. There are drinks like soda, lemonade and popcorn. After the boys fight, mom gets mad. Mom says, “Stop fighting like that. Damn you kids! Get to bed.” The boys say, “We’re having fun. You go to bed.” Mom says, “Get to bed before I slap you. Cool off. Take a shower and relax.” The boys are sad. They are depressed. They are hungry. The boys, Tom and Jerry, have a sister, a grandmother. They are at home with their father and grand-aunt. They fight again with each other again. The mother and father send them to bed.
