I Outsmarted Everyone
She's in the chicken house. I think her mother ran out of eggs for something she was cooking and she sent the little girl out to get an egg.
I think this was taken back in 1921. That little girl has a wonderful smile on her face. It looks to me like the little girl has her apron gathered up like she has eggs in the apron. She looks pleased with herself, too. I'd be pleased if I could hold eggs in my apron!
She's coming in after Sunday school and her mama said "Be sure to put your apron on." Those stockings that little girl has on are something my mother made me wear to school and I was just beside myself.
I think her name's Dorothy. The chicken is White Rocks breed. The chicken doesn't seem to be afraid of her.
She's standing there hiding, hoping that the chicken will come out so she can chase it. I thought maybe she might have chicken feed in her apron.
The mom's inside cooking lunch after church. When you take the eggs out of the nest and they peck you, it's not comfortable.
They'll eat some of the eggs for supper. They might be making cornbread, ice cream, or custard. If it was back in the 20's they didn't have much refrigeration then, except for iceboxes maybe.
