I Wonder Where Mom Is? or A Little Curmudgeon and His Dog or Who Gets the Cookie?
The dog’s name is Bozo, and the boy’s name is Buster. They are in Florida – somewhere hot. Buster is wearing denim coveralls. We girls wore them in Kansas when we were kids. Bozo doesn’t look exactly like a hound – he looks like a golden lab.
Buster is smoking a cigar. No [laughter], he’s licking his thumb and fingers – there’s chocolate icing on his fingers.
The bowl has cereal and milk. It’s breakfast time. Believe it or not, some people actually drink Coca-Cola for breakfast.
The dog’s mother is a better cook than the boy’s mother.
Buster thinks he is hidden in the living room. But he is still leery of his mother, or maybe an older sister who is 17 or 18 years old. He was playing outdoors; he has a hole in his pants on the knee.
There are cookies in the can. Now, where that blob of jelly came from I can’t determine. It’s nowhere except on his hand and the cookie that he is about to put in his mouth. He is enjoying the jam and has a glass of tea.
The dog will wait patiently for his turn. He is watching and wants to eat.
Dogs don’t like sweets. If the dog doesn’t want them, I’ll take them! If the food is good, the dog will eat it out of your hand.
Bozo is going to jump up and take a bite. He is going to grab the cookie that’s in Buster’s hand. The dog gets the cookie, and he eats most of the cookies. Buster’s not happy, but he doesn’t punish the dog.
Buster is going to grow up and go to college and become a doctor or a chef. He likes to eat. Is he going to examine dogs or people? Maybe he will become a veterinarian.
He’s going to be a healthy young man.
