John Henry is an 8-year-old boy. He lives in Iowa with his mom, Matilda, his dad, Henry, his older sister Dorothy, and his baby brother, Joe. At 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning, John Henry was finishing his homework at the kitchen table while mom was hanging wet clothes on the clothesline and his dad was busy working in the field. Dorothy was spending the day at the library and Joe was taking a nap.
There was still a long time until lunch and John Henry thought he could sneak a cookie or two since nobody was watching him. Mom would be angry with him if she saw him eating the cookies so he sat behind the counter by the door with his glass of iced tea. His dog Rex poked his head in to investigate what John Henry was doing. John Henry did not want to share his cookies so he pretended that Rex wasn't there.
John Henry will be scolded by his mother when she discovers that there are cookie crumbs on his clothes and her raised voice will wake his little brother up from his nap.
John Henry will grow up and graduate high school before going to college to study at becoming a lawyer. While at college he will meet a girl named Daisy. The two of them will have at least 2 children but absolutely no more than 10. (This story was compiled with the help of some participants at an adult day center in Illinois.)
