Her name is Susie. She’s dancing the Charlston, doing the cha cha cha. She is 35 years old, full of verve. It’s in the fall of the 60’s in Milwaukee. She is dancing because the band is playing horns and things. It is a get-together, a family festival. She is listening to jazz music and grunting – “uh, uh, uh”.
She is wearing a short skirt and loafers, she has to wear her shoes all the time. Is her underwear showing? That’s not good. They need a dress code. She is wearing a cardigan with a broach shaped like a key on it.
There’s a little boy in the corner – he looks scared to death! He’s thinking “what are they doing, what are they doing?” He doesn’t give a darn.
She is dancing with a guy, you can see her looking at his feet. She is going to hug him. People are clapping. She will bow, saying “thank you, thank you”. Her mouth is dry, she needs a drink. She will go get a drink.
