A grandmother is dancing with her grandson. It looks like they are having a celebration because the grandson, Jimmy, just got home from the army. The grandmother is known as Baba, she has been working very hard to prepare for Jimmy’s homecoming. When Jimmy was in the army, he was deployed to Somalia where he worked as a medic.
It is a warm summer night in Winnipeg. Everyone is there; Jimmy’s army friends, buddies from home and church, and even the neighbours and children. People from all ages are there to celebrate with him and Jimmy and his baba are both very happy and excited.
Jimmy’s baba has prepared many Ukrainian family recipes. The main disk at the party is cheddar and potato perogies with sauerkraut and borsht.
After Jimmy finishes dancing with his baba, he takes his girlfriend, Valentina, for a spin on the dance floor. But Jimmy is a terrible dancer. So terrible that Valentina exclaims “How dare you!” But since it is party time, his girlfriend cannot stay mad at Jimmy for very long and it is not long before they make up.
Jimmy is very relieved that Valentina did not stay mad at him because after the party Jimmy takes Valentina outside and proposes to her. She accepts, and they decide to marry after Easter.
