Our story begins,... what is she sitting on? pondered Lucy. Elva assumes its some kind of bench. Clara determined “Lady Jane is her name”. Ruthie is excited that Lady Jane is in Steven's Place in Clinton, Wisconsin. "Same as my Hometown" she claims. Walter describes "This person is definitely a woman, by the look of her face and she is not bad looking". She is wearing unusual clothes. Not traditional clothes women wear.
Esther shared that this looks like a Ferris wheel.
The others think it looks like an air plane from the early 1900s. Lady Jane looks young but she is has lots of Aviation experienced, "so she probably knows what she is doing!" explains Elva. Ethel concurred with an affirmative head nod. Her family likes the idea of her career - "Its something different". Lady Jane is attending an event for publicity and had photo-ops. She and the aircraft are in a ball park for the spectators at the Aviation Exhibition. She had a crew to get her there. She has a co-pilot, a crew chief, and a driver to transport her and the aircraft. The sounds Lady Jane might be hearing is People Talking, and the sound of the engine of the plane. The exhibit is for ordinary people to see what's going on, and for inventors to see new technology.
Elva learned to fly a plane when she wasn't in school. The group wondered, what happened just before this photo was taken. "Maybe something unusual", Ruthie contributed. Lucy chimed in with "Maybe someone made introduction of the Pilot and Aircraft". Ada and Clara agree that it is a very Historic moment. Walter added "yeah, this photo made it all the way to the Library of Congress".
Next, Lady Jane and her crew will prepare to demonstrate the functions of the plane. first, "you gotta start up and try to fly it" The audience believed nothing was going to happen, but she did fly. Lady Jane was able to raise funds to make the needed improvements on the plane. Barbara declared “Woh!”
