It’s an advertising campaign to find one-legged ladies! But look - the curtains are bulging. It’s their knees - the ladies have tucked their other leg up in the air. Bet they’d be glad to put that leg down. There’s no other leg; they’re one-legged ladies waiting for their other leg to come along! Maybe it’ll come on a bus.
When the curtain goes up we see: knees, suspenders, a line up from the Twelfth Street Rag, Legs and Co from Top of the Pops! Yes, they’re dancers. These are the Bluebell girls at the Folies Bergeres in Paris and they are going to perform the can-can. They can’t dance – they’re in walking shoes. It’s an advert for Clarks. There are footlights on the stage to show off the shoes. And an orchestra is playing These Shoes are Made for Walking …
These (shoes) are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do, One of these days these (shoes) are gonna walk all over you. Are you ready (shoes)? Start walkin'!
The shoes are much too pretty for walking shoes. They are putting their best foot forward. Maybe to do The Lambeth Walk …
Anytime you're Lambeth way, Any evening, any day, You'll find us all doin' the Lambeth walk. Ev'ry little Lambeth gal, With her little Lambeth pal, You'll find 'em all doin' the Lambeth walk.
Or are they are doing a Mexican Wave?
The audience is the government; they are looking for black faces and the black and white minstrels are hiding behind the curtain. They will be put in prison if they are found. The audience are the producers. The show goes all over the world. It’s at the Manor Pavilion in Exmouth now. Well, you can’t do better than that! There is piano music and the audience is hooting. Maybe it’s a knobbly knee competition. More likely an ankle competition. The girls are fed up though. Because they have bare legs!
But just like that the curtain may go down. Then there will be a lot of disappointed men!
