Make Up a Story
Stories from Around the World
Lost in the Woods
He is recognizing something that he did. The whole thing is in a walkway. The man with the pipe looks like Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes tells one of his stories to the one who is shining his shoes. This takes place in the country. Europe.
A kid is trying to shine the shoes of Sherlock Holmes. He’s looking unimpressed. The kid is looking eagerly at something to remember it by. These two men know each other by the way they appear and react to each other. The man sitting in the chair is disorganized by all the people walking around. He is a PMO-project management officer. People are talking, sizing each other up, whether they would be friends, or not, and going out to have a good time.
Sherlock Holmes is the project manager. He’s smoking a man’s cigarette and the guy who’s shining his shoes is asking for a promotion. We smell tobacco smells from the pipe, shoe polish and stinky feet! Well, he’s got his shoes on so it would not be quite that bad. But he has holes in the bottom of his shoes! He’s got holes in the bottom of his head. You got have a sense of humor!
He could be thinking, “They are working for the guy with the pipe.” The guy at the top is bored. He has a look of disdain, “Wish I was out of here.” He’s being nice to the kid, not repulsed by him. He wants to go home and be with his wife. He’s thinking, “I wonder what she is going to cook.” Sherlock Holmes is very serious. He needs to go shopping but he forgot what’s on his list. The other guy is nervous because he’s so serious.
This takes place in Roswald, New Mexico. I’ve been there many times. Next Sherlock Holmes is going to pass out a cookie to the kid, just one cookie. He is kind of cheap. It’s only one cookie! In the pattern on the floor is a telephone number.
