Ninety-year-old Margarita, a well-traveled lover of life, has never been to New Orleans, but this year, she finally got the chance to go to Mardi Gras. Although she has a terminal illness and knows she will die soon, she has put this thought in the back of her mind and is thoroughly enjoying her time here in Louisiana as her last hurrah. Hailing from Chicago, Margarita, her two close friends, and her son Frederick are preparing to go to the Mardi Gras parade. Frederick has been to New Orleans a few times before for conferences, so he knows which places his mom would like to visit. Like his mother, Frederick enjoys jazz music, and the pair are planning on hitting the town together later on. Margarita, surrounded by the sounds of jazz and others who are having a good time in the nearby bars and restaurants, is looking forward to drinking a hurricane and eating a muffuletta sandwich later on. First, she will enjoy the parade, dance in the streets, and head to Preservation Hall with her son to enjoy the music.
