This story is about a girl called Nancy and her chicken Tuffy. It takes place in Massachusetts, in a barn on a farm. The farm was in rural Ashberry Massachusetts. It is mid-day on April 10, 1946. The little girl’s name is Nancy, she is about 6 years old and is just too cute! Her father’s name is George. Her father George is with her at the barn, he is milking the cows and he took a picture of the little girl by the barn. Nancy hears the mooing of the cows, the chickens clucking, children playing outside, the birds chirping and the supper bell from the house. She smells the cow poop, and that’s the smell of money! The chickens & the cows make it smelly. Nancy’s job is to pick eggs and she milks the cows. She has a hen and the hen’s name is Tuffy, the hen is with Nancy. There is a wire that is holding the door of the barn closed and that is why the hen is there, it wants to get out. The hen is laying the “Golden Egg” and she will cackle after she lays the “Golden Egg”. Nancy has rolled up her apron and has the eggs that she picked in it. She is going to take the eggs home to her mother. Nancy’s mother’s name is Sally. Nancy & her mother are going to wash the eggs and make them for supper.
When Nancy grows up she is going to be a farmer. She will raise chickens. Nancy will have a family. Her husband will be Ralph Lyle Wagner. Nancy will have 3 children – two boys and a girl. Her boy names will be Pat and Mike and her girl will be named Judy Rose Wagner. She will have her children pick the eggs and guard the nest & chickens. They will have to clean the chicken poop to. The children will have to pick and wash the eggs so that they can eat them, like Nancy did. Nancy’s children will be happy when the work is done! Nancy will be happy that she is raising the children on the farm, as she will know that she is giving them a good & healthy life.
