It was a warm muggy summer day when two cars traveling down Main Street Brockport, NY stopped at an intersection. Each car had a golden retriever in the back seat. The owners of the dogs rolled down their windows to talk when they saw each other's dogs. They realized that the dogs were staring at each other and rolled down the back windows. As soon as they did, the dogs were nose to nose sniffing each other.
"Hi! My name is Fido!" said the big dog in the blue car. "What's your name?"
"My name is April! It's nice to meet you!" replied the dog in the silver car.
"You look stunning in that red bandana!" said Fido.
"Thank you." April shyly replied.
He asked her where she was going and she told him she was headed to the local dog park: Playtime Park for Dogs. He was headed to the same park and they agreed it was quite the coincidence. He asked her if she had been there before and she told him she had. Fido had never been there and asked what it was like. She told him how fantastic it was. "There are bones and balls, hills to roll down, and a pond with a doggy waterslide! I"ll show you around when we get there!"
"Sounds great!" said Fido.
The light turned green and they continued on their way to the park. When they got there, the owners parked next to each other and all four of them walked into the park together.
The owners found a shady tree to sit under while the dogs played and ran around.
Fido and Alice played tug of war with a stick, rolled down the hill, and splashed in the pond for a half hour before they tired themselves out.
The owners saw how much fun the dogs had together and planned a puppy playdate for the following Saturday.
They ended up having a playdate once a week for the rest of the summer and Fido and Alice, along with their owners, became the best of friends.
