Riding in a Rumble Seat to the Ocean
We were travelling down there, travelling down the road. We had a rumble seat in our car. It was much more interesting. Adventuresome! You’d wave at everybody you saw on the road.
You might be going south. You might be going north. You might be going some other place. My favorite place to go was the Outer Banks.
When you are travelling in a convertible you don’t hear a lot of sounds. You see lots of motels, lots of cars that were similar to ours. We’d wave.
Usually, when we went to the Outer Banks you’d travel mostly alone.
At the Outer Banks we went swimming in the ocean and had a good time.
You’d hear birds. The weather wasn’t anything like here. It was usually pretty cool especially in the evenings. The Outer Banks made you feel good. They gave you a GREAT feeling. We’d get there and say, “We’ve arrived!”
There’s the whole ocean out there. It was deep and it was spread out and it was lots of fun.
The most fun part was riding in the rumble seat because you could wave at everyone. If you put the seat down, you’d be able to hear more sounds especially at night. Everything made you laugh because you saw sights along the road that you wouldn’t see otherwise.
You might go to the ocean to see the waves.
You might go to the ocean to play in the sand.
You might go to the ocean to just have fun in the sun.
The ocean is deep, big, and mighty.
At the end of the day, you would have played in the sand, built a sandman, and whatever came to mind when you were a teenager.
I rode to the ocean lots of times in the rumble seat.
