This takes place in a prairie farm somewhere in the midwest possibly southern Minnesota or northern Iowa in the 60s. There are animals inside, but just a few not like a dairy farm. The barn looks old fashion, and the family owns it. They have hens laying eggs in there, and maybe even a horse or two. The barn looks run down and in poverty. Alyssa is the little girl. She is six or seven. She is just as pleased as peaches that someone is taking a picture. Someone is possibly visiting or her mom has a new camera. She is pleased that someone is taking attention in her. She is there because she is playing, and she looks a bit shy. She might have food in her apron for feeding the geese. The goose's name is honker, and is a girl. Honker came to the door because the girl was there. He wasn't doing anything in particular. Alyssa looks poor because of her worn shoes and stockings, yet she has pride in herself because of the bow in her hair. Alyssa has a mom and dad. Mom is in the kitchen cleaning whereas the dad is doing the best he can to make a living like working in the field and raising beef cattle. Alyssa has a lot of siblings and because of the large family, she is pleased when she gets attention. She is one of the youngest in the family. Alyssa is just playing around outside, and her parents trust her to be on her own. Older siblings are helping out dad and mom, but she is not old enough.
