A long time ago, in a village far away, they tell a tale of a mermaid lady; her name was Shimmer. She had gills behind her ears and a fin on her back that expanded in water; her feet were webbed and she had sharp teeth. Shimmer protected the village people from sea creatures. There were many fishermen in the village; they counted on her to give them information about the weather and big schools of fish in the area. Shimmer was suddenly captured by pirates and taken away, never to be seen again. The villagers were hopeful that they would see her again. Sometimes fishermen would go home and tell stories about seeing Shimmer in the waters that they had been fishing in. One day, a strange ship came to the village; they said they were bringing their captain home. The captain's sharp teeth scared the young children but the elders knew that Shimmer had returned and they weren't afraid. That night, they had a huge celebration and the fishermen came home with the largest bounty of fish. They had enough fish to feed everyone in the village and all the neighboring villages. After their celebration, Shimmer jumped into the water and swam away. She still returns to the village with every full moon; they also celebrate her visit with a huge celebration.
