"Pete is shooting crows or blackbirds on his grandfather's ranch in Nebraska" confer Shirley, Mary, Edie and Sharon. He is in the pasture with his grandpa's donkey, Pedro. Pete is 18 years old now and is visiting his grandpa for a few days on his summer break. Grandpa is not at all bothered by all of the shooting as he is a good shot himself.
Pete is having a good time, but needs some practice. Grandpa thinks he can use his help with the chores on the farm. He is earning some money to get some new shoes; "A dollar from grandpa for every crow he shoots", says Shirley and Edie.
Pete dreams of someday being a rancher like grandpa, even inheriting the ranch! It'll be a dream come true and he can shoot all of the crows he wants! "Pete's grandpa is very proud of his grandson, who is named after him" says Shirley and Edie. Pete will follow in his grandfather's footsteps and will try to make the land even more productive. He is hoping on taking agricultural courses at the vocational school to prepare him for his future.
