Singing on the Bench
It takes place in a backyard with a fence behind it, during the fall.
There is the sound of leaves crunching. There is a sound like “sps,” “sps,” “sps.” It sounds like honeybees, or stinging bees.
It smells fresh and sweet, like honeybees.
Her name is Lola.
She is playing a guitar that is quite unusual: It’s green. She’s playing a country-western song that goes like this:
“Y’all come when we come back again.
Y’all come when we come back again.”
Lola is not traveling in a singing group. It’s a happy song, but it’s lonely, too.
Lola wants someone to hear her. Someone, like her husband, is listening to her.
All of a sudden, there’s a spider on her shoulder. She is scared. She screams, and a man comes to rescue her. He says: “Don’t worry, honey. I am he-are.”
The man stays close. He is very nice.
They got hooked up, and lived happily ever after.
(One storyteller rolled her eyes!) You need to stick with your husband!
