Make Up a Story
Stories from Around the World
Sunday Afternoon at Willow Mills
Two little
boys are getting ready to fist fight. They are the little guys in the front –
Ryan and Alex.
They aren’t
fighting over toys. So, it must be about a girl. Her name is Dolly.
It’s at the
pool at Willow Mills. It’s very warm and sunny.
“Get your
dukes up!” says Ryan. Alex gets his up and he’s ready. “You better look out,” he
says.
One of the
kids in the background throws a ball of straw at them and it falls at their
feet. Ryan and Alex just laugh about it. They think it's funny, so they go to
beat up the boy that threw the straw ball.
The boy
picks up some sand to throw, but instead runs over to the boys and says, “Hey,
don’t you remember me anymore?” He’s all dressed up in dark clothes and shoes
out on the beach. He just came to visit for the day.
They look at
each other and say, “No, we don’t remember you.”
He told them
his name, Joe Blow from the Windy City. Turns out they used to be good friends.
Meanwhile, Dolly
is over under the umbrella in the corner. She’s my friend, the beautiful blond.
She is laughing the whole time. “Oh, you are crazy,” she says. The boys just
laugh. Someone says, “oh yeah, I remember you.”
They hear
the sounds of the water and the birds. And, they smell the smell of someone
barbequing. They are smart so they follow the smell to get something to eat.
They forget
about the girl and forget that they were fighting.
