The Adventures of Cocoa Two
Cocoa Two is pulling his blanket across the floor. He’s going to Caroline because he wants to go out. He’s going to take a walk with Caroline.
They will go around the block because of the cold. They live in North Carolina. It is about 10 degrees warmer there than here. He sometimes puts his little sweater on. It’s red and black plaid. All of the family has red and black pajamas and Cocoa Two, has one too.
On the walk he hears birds. They sound like wintertime birds that are trying to find food and little seeds to eat. He turns his head and looks up. Caroline gives a little tug on his leash, he gives a little yip, and they keep going.
He smells smoke because the family next door is building a house and they have equipment in the yard. There is smoke coming from one of the burners that is heating the shingles they are putting on the roof.
Cocoa Two stops and again he has to be reminded to keep going because Caroline has to get to school.
Next, he sees a cat and he wants to go after the cat. The cat is a tabby cat – kinda like a yellow and white, brown and white. Caroline has a hold of the leash so he doesn’t get very far. The cat was walking across his own yard not paying attention to Cocoa Two.
Because Cocoa Two sees the cat, he gives a yip because he wants to run after the cat. The cat hears him, then sees Cocoa and runs up the tree.
Caroline needs to get to school and keeps tugging on Cocoa. They continue to finish their walk. Back at the house, Cocoa Two stops to do his business. By this time, he is hungry. They go indoors.
Caroline gives him his breakfast. He LOVES his breakfast. It’s scrambled eggs and chicken. Mom cooks the chicken bones and takes the cartilage away from the bones. Cocoa gets the cartilage for breakfast. He’s happy because it’s his breakfast.
He knows Caroline is going to school. Caroline has a brother with a handicap and a man takes both of them to school. When the man comes, Cocoa runs to Mom because he wants to go. He knows he cannot go with Caroline. He will have to go with Mom in the car to the store. This makes him glad. He likes to go in the car.
When Caroline comes home from school, she gives Cocoa Two a bath. She sets him on a little stool beside the bathtub, lathers him up, and puts him in the bathtub to rinse him and get all of the soap off.
Cocoa likes his baths, but he doesn’t like to be wet so he does what all of the other dogs do. He shakes all over and gets Caroline all wet in the process. Next, he gets wrapped in a towel and dried off.
Epilogue: It’s fun to hear from my family in North Carolina. We always have a Cocoa story! This story will give me something to send along to them in a Valentine’s card.
